Argentina wins the 1950 FIBA Championship
Description
An account of the resource
Argentina's victory over the United States enhanced the international profile of basketball. The inaugural FIBA World Basketball Championship also served the anti-imperialist rhetoric of the Peronist government toward "Yanquis," but in a less overt manner than the usual accusations of political and trade disruptions from Washington D.C. toward Perón and his policies. Politics aside, news of Argentina's triumph, and the resounding success of the tournament, generated excitement among sports enthusiasts in the country. Although some would point out that the U.S. did not send its best representatives (the delegation was comprised entirely of a team based out of Denver, CO), most observers undestood Argentina's victory as a notable achievement for basketball practiced around the world.

Description
An account of the resource
The article positions Argentina's performance in relation to that of the United States, which, as the cradle of basketball, is the barometer to measure Argentina's own performances. This is similar to early sports writing on fútbol and Argentina's juxtaposition to British 'football.' [Argentina defeated France, while the U.S. defeated Chile.] The United States sent an amateur team, the Denver Chevrolets, as the U.S. national team for the 1950 FIBA Championship.
