Domingo Faustino Sarmiento
Portrait
Photograph portrait of Domingo F. Sarmiento: President of Argentina, Minister of Education, educator, intellectual, author, and member of the "1837 Generation" of liberals inspired by European Romanticism and democratic ideals. Sarmiento was a vocal advocate for public education, drawing inspiration from his travels to the United States while in exile under the Rosas regime. His most famous book, Civilización i barbarie, became the basis for liberal ideas about national progress and modernity that informed the views of subsequent generations of middle-class citizens. Voto de aplauso; Asamblea extraordinaria
Two articles with contrasting tones
In the first article, a move is made to honor the entire national team for their string performance at the 1966 World Cup. In the second article, AFA President Francisco Perette submits his resignation for approval. Perette was the brother of Arturo Illia's Vice President; but, under the new military regime, he is persona non-grata. (The Onganía government will eventually move to appoint an interventor at AFA).
