Commentary on Uruguayan identity and savagery
Description
An account of the resource
Cartoon and commentary demeans Uruguayan victory. Not only does it try to invalidate it as unjust, but also portrays Uruguayans as savages in racialized terms. No longer are they the "porteño" brothers of a similar culture (gaucheque, mate, European), the cartoon instead highlights the Africanan and indigenous roots of Uruguayan identity.

Scandal breaks out in lieu of Palacio Zino's racially insensitive portrayal of Brazilian players
Description
An account of the resource
Palacio Zino and his artist, "El mono" Taborda, face critcism over their portrayal of the Brazilian national team as monkeys. The "Macaquito Affair" eventually involved political leaders from both countries and demonstrated the power of the press to shape (inter)national news. The language in this piece- an explanation of sorts (or a rebuttal to be more precise) - is laced with an unapologetic tone that pours more gasoline on the fire (i.e. characterizing every Brazilian child as a bastard whose own mother does not know his parentage).

Perón honors students participating in athletics
Description
An account of the resource
Perón leaves the adults to their own competitions and instead highlights the state's efforts towards helping students. Images of students from the Unión de Estudiantes Secundarios (UES) shows Perón surrounded by teens in blackface (to mimic the Globetrotters) and female athletes (a repeated occurrence that led to accusations by opponents that he exploited young women.)
