Subject

Foreign lens look at Argentina's controversial exit from the World Cup

Description

Foreign reactions were commonly reprinted in Argentine newspapers. Here, a Swiss paper describes Argentinian players as the best in the world but, if they had only a minimum of discipline and dignity, they would be champions of the world. Instead, Argentine players shouted, kicked, threw punches, and even spat at a FIFA official. "We knew their disposition beforehand when, in Tokyo, they were not awarded the 1970 World Cup and left without even shaking hands with anyone." The author of the Swiss article supported the referee, described a serious man, stating that he must have had reasons to expel the Argentine captain. In another article, FIFA is characterized as a European organization not interested in South America, with criticisms emanating froman Uruguayan newspapers.
