But the difference here is that the detials of the private life of Sívori, now playing in Italy, receives as much attention as local players. In the past, once players left for Europe, the Argentine press only highlighted noteworthy accomplishments on the field. But now, thanks to the rapid diffusion of information, and the interconnectivity of world football, fans in Argentina continued to follow the exploits of their favorite players in Europe. (Also of note is how the press in Argentina would quote European-based players like Sívori to reaffirm the superiority of criollo fútbol over European football.)
