Preparación física del árbitro

Subject

Academy of Referees promotes better physical training for match officials

Description

Acknowledging the growing importance of physical trainers at sport club associations, D. Eduardo Abella Caprile (physical education professor at the Academy of Referees) delivered a conference presentation entitled "Preparación física del árbitro." One of the main talking points concerned the limitations placed by AFA towards referees, limiting the involvement of professors like Caprile and basically leaving up to referees their own physical training (no funding, no training from AFA). Of note: the article points to Italy, where a similar push towards better training helped referees perform better because they had the stamina to be on top of the action on the field, whereas in Argentina referees smoked on a regular basis and lacked the stamina to keep up with the increased speed of play.
