Title

Football

Description

A football match took place on May 14, 1874. However, the match by the Buenos Ayres Football Club adopted new rules, the Rugby Union rules. This is a sudden shift for the club, which had been playing a version under the Football Association, or soccer rules. The reason for the switch is unclear, although the novelty of rugby might have brought renewed attention to BAFC at a time when citizens were wary of attending sporting events during the yellow fever epidemic.
