Independiente, finalista de la Copa: Ahora sabemos que podemos

An article that illustrates the significance of Independiente's 1964 South American championship: the Copa Libertadores

Up until 1964, no Argentine team had won the Copa Libertadores. Now, Independiente's victory meant that the team from Avellaneda would play against the champions from Europe for the right to become the unofficial world club champions. Of note are the traits Sport employs to describe Argentine fútbol (or, tio be more precise, what it should be): "pujanza," "vitalidad," "optimismo," "ganas," and "lucha(r)." Coach Manuel Giudice also stated that "Independiente tiene que salir 'matando.'"
