The first announcements inform readers that an interest meeting for the Buenos Ayres Athletic Society in Palermo will be postponed until further notice. The second announcement by the Buenos Ayres Football Club is for a scheduled match in Flores, outside of the capital city center, between Town and Suburbs. With yellow fever ravaging the capital, football matches moved to suburbs like Flores, which were well removed from dense populations.

A football match is scheduled to take place on May 25, 1868, with balls recently arrived from Rugby, England. It is likely that the balls were less round, and more oval, as Rugby was a hotbed for football played by rules that would eventually become known as rugby (rules) football.

A football match took place on May 14, 1874. However, the match by the Buenos Ayres Football Club adopted new rules, the Rugby Union rules. This is a sudden shift for the club, which had been playing a version under the Football Association, or soccer rules. The reason for the switch is unclear, although the novelty of rugby might have brought renewed attention to BAFC at a time when citizens were wary of attending sporting events during the yellow fever epidemic.

Description

Part-advertisement/part-commentary, this brief editorial calls on "aficionados" of the "thoroughly British game" of football to attend an upcoming game. "We'd go any distance to see scientific 'forcing,' and a few good 'scrimmages,' and mean to be at Palermo on that day in question." The tone here indicates a concern that public attendance will be minimal at a time when yellow fever ran rampant in Buenos Aires.

This 1870 commentary in the "Editor's Table" of The Standard offers a brief description of a football game in Palermo. The match scheduled for June 29th is a second attempt to organize a public soccer match hosted by the Buenos Aires Football Club in Palermo. Based on the lessons learned from the first game, the club asks players to bring one red and white cap (each) for team selections. A pre-game meeting to go over the rules shows that althbough players may know how to play football, they either did not know all the rules, or their diverse backgrounds (soccer vs rugby) meant their understanding of the game's rules differed.
