<text>This first commentary was published outside of the sports section of the paper. Here, the author describes the role that sports plays in developing positive aspects of the national character. The "bochonorso" episode between a "local" team (Estudiantes is not directly named) and "an Italian squad" demonsrated that sports could also pose a threat to the nation's image–especially when transmitted to homes beyond the nation's borders–and undo years of development. The author expects that authorities will quickly repudiate and sanction those involved in damaging Argentina's reputation. In the second commentary, sports writer Diego Lucero describes the second match of the 1969 Intercontinental Cup as an embarassing chapter in the nation's history and a loss of honor for all its citizens. He believes that the Estudiantes players gave plenty of reasons to spport Alf ramsey's accusation of Argentine players as "animals." The worst aspect of the match, according to Lucero, was that the violence on the field began from the opening whistle–suggesting a tactical decision more than regular emotional responses by players.</text>

<text>In a commentary, Beto Devoto accuses the Italian squad of being complicit in the events at La Bombonera by not trying to win a match, throwing themselves on the ground, and stalling. Of note is that Devoto uses the "we" form–showing that Estudiantes represented the entire country. The second article focuses on the arrest of Néstor Combín. The problem centered on his supposed failure to comply with military service because of his arrest by the Argentine military. However, Combín eventually cleared his name. This shows a preoccupation, at first, of assigning equal blame for the ugly incidents at the end of the match; however, the brutality Argentines witnessed in the stadium, and on television, left no doubt that several Estudiantes players had exceeded the norms of sportsmanship.</text>

<text>Having only secured a tie in Buenos Aires, Estudiantes had to win in Holland against Feyenoord. The result, however, was a solid victory for Feyenoord and Estudiantes' second consecutive loss against European teams (AC Milan in 1969). The coverage in Clarín is notable on two fronts. Compared to previous years, the press afforded little fanfare to Estudiantes' quest for the world title–no doubt due to the embarassing incidents against AC Milan the previous year. An obituary of sorts also colored the coverage, a sense that Estudiantes' era of success had come to a close and that the team bore little resemblance to the confident and aggressive team of 1968 and 1969. Lucero suggests that Estudiantes players were fearful of being sent to jail if they played an excessively physical match, which perhaps affected their overall performance.</text>
