Title

A River le ganó…"El equipo de potrero…

Subject

Racing defeats River Plate

Description

The use of the term "potrero" to characterize Rácing is odd. While River Plate is nicknamed "Los Millionarios," Rácing is also a major club with a long history. The article suggests that River fans, in a prior victory over Rácing, labeled them a team from the "portreros", or in other words a poor team that could not measure up to River. Here, the Rácing fans turn the previous insult into a term of pride. Rácing was also linked to the Peronist state, which exalted the poor and humble, which could have also influenced the embrace of poverty and humility.
