Title
Al marcar San Lorenzo un gol decisivo grave tumulto en Rosario; Como se produjeron los sucesos
Subject
Accounts from the San Lorenzo-Newell's Old Boys match detail the violent actions of fans
Description
Local fans ('adictos') in Rosario storm the south end of the field and tear down wire fences to attack the match referee for what they deemed as suspicious calls in favor of San Lorenzo. Police threatened to use tear gas, which only increased the ire of fans. Reporters at the game described the scene as a battlefield ("batalla campal") and reported that fans in the stands launched projectiles at police officers. These actions prompted police officers to launch tear gas canisters into the crowd, including in sections with women and children. (The number of injured fans horvered around a dozen men and women). The worst part involved the referee, Cossio. Trying to escape the projectiles, he ran through an opening in the wire fence and towards the street when a mob attacked him, leaving him bloodied on the ground. Some of the assailants continued to kick him, while others prepared a noose to hang him from a nearby tree before soldiers intervened and rushed him to the hospital.
