Subject
Overview of ugly end to match between Independiente and San Lorenzo
Description
The paper characterizes the match between Independiente and San Lorenzo as one worth forgetting, an un-esraseable stain on the game. It assigns some blame to the referee for being inconsistent with the fouls that were called and perhaps too quick to send off players. The match was “antideportivo, de lo que no debe ni puede ser”. The fans deserve criticism for their response by throwing projectiles. The police calm the situation at first but the fans continued throwing projectiles which led to the gas canisters, which only further agitated the fans who decided to invade the field. Fans threatened the authority of the referee, while players “perjudicaron el futbol”. One football expert claimed that soccer was being destroyed: there’s too much marking, defending, running but the quality suffers. He preferred the footfall of yesteryear, full of initiative. Perhaps this is modern but he doesn’t like it.
