“The performance of the national team did not satisfy.” Lucero reminds readers that the Argentine player is capable of great accomplishments, of winning championships, even when the game is played rough, when the rivals challenge plays harshly, when the Argentine player has to play tough in order to rise to the occasion. (He’s not suggesting this is the ideal play just that the Argentine players capable of playing this way too). The overall analysis is that Argentinian football is on a decline that compromises the national prestige. The only players that rescued the honor of the team were those who still played from the “old school”. Argentina defeats Portugal 2 to 0.
