The tone, selection of images, and langauge used to describe the performance of the referee in a match between River and Santos is fascinating. Suggestions that he "bends over" for the Brazilians and is allowed to be bullied by officials from Santos are noteworthy. The cover image shows River players and coach surrounding the referee, appealing to some 'injustice'. [The following week another referee is accused of becoming the 12th player for Santos in another 'disastrous' performance, according to River--Feb 16, 1965 page 6; a similar '12th man' description occurs in the match against Boca Juniors July 4, 1965--River Jul 6, page 5 ]
